Count Down...

I am counting down this last hour of a pretty crappy work week!!

I woke up late this morning because I must have accidentally turned my alarm off instead of hitting snooze, (or my jacked up pos phone did it) water leaked all inside my purse because I apparently do not know how to put a top back on bottled water properly. Oh, and I swear people were absolutely drunk on the way back from dropping The Mister off at work. I was almost sideswiped twice, and I ended up on the shoulder one of the times. Thank goodness it wasn't any worse! Then, I was told by The Mister to do a factory restore on my phone since it has been acting up so bad lately, and now my phone will not turn on. Looks like I will be going to pay someone a visit after work to get this thing fixed. I feel absolutely lost without it! <insert sad face here>

I have been pretty grumpy this week, but I am really looking forward to the weekend! I'm going to get my hair did done, then it is off to pick out some new books for our little eager reader, and to pick up her prints from this session.

As for tonight, I am hoping to make it a Menchies and Texas Roadhouse kind of night, then some Breaking Bad.

-If you have not figured it out by now, I am ALWAYS late in getting into things. Fashion, makeup, TV series, scentsy, you name it. So with that being said, I am on season 2 of Breaking Bad so please don't ruin it for me!

I have a few errands to run on Sunday, and of course, in between everything else, I need to work on my current Pinterest project! I can't wait to share it with all of you!

I really hope you all enjoy your weekend, and remember, Saturday will be another weekend throwback from my previous blog!

In My Dreams

Lately I have been having tons of crazy dreams! With all my dreams there has been one constant in every single one of them.

My dog, whom I considered my first child, that I loved so dearly. He went everywhere with me and was always by my side. I loved him to pieces.

I had someone in my life that was not good for me, I was secluded from all my friends and family, and then not long after the seclusion came the disappearance of this sweet face! I shut down, completely after that, especially after finding out it was all this person's doing because they were jealous of my baby boy!

Who could be jealous of this sweet face, who smiles for the camera because I told him if he did, he could take this ridiculous costume off?!

In my dreams, I am usually curled up with him all night, or he is by my side the entire time I am in danger, or in a horrible situation, but I wake up feeling empty.

Since his disappearance in 2007 I have yet to find a dog I truly connect with, not like my big cuddle bear. I think it may be because they are small dogs, and just aren't as laid back. I'm not really sure why.

This was his new spot when I was pregnant and sick, he always curled up at my feet, and stayed by me through all the sickness.

I don't care what people say about Rottweilers, I have known one, and I have loved one. There was not a vicious bone in his body. He would really just lick you to death! He was protective of me, but never to a point where nobody could come near me. He loved people. But if he heard something, or sensed danger, he would guard me, and that is it. This guy was just a great big goofy teddy bear, and was always happy.

I haven't missed him this much since he first disappeared. He would have absolutely loved and adored my baby girl, and she would him.

Being Beat Down By Makeup

So.. I have been trying to discover a good makeup match for myself lately. With all the medications I have been on for the last year or more, I have not really worn as much makeup since the medications changed my skin so much. Now that things have somewhat calmed down I decided to get myself out there and try some products.

I just about cried when Prescriptives went away because that was my go to brand, my love.

I have never quite found a match for my long lost love brand. I have been searching off and on. Now, you should know, I have sensitive skin. Clinique breaks this girl out. Except for their moisturizer that I would absolutely die without.

This past weekend I decided to give Smashbox a whirl. I have heard some of the BEST things about them, especially their BB cream. So in I went for some color matching. Of course, with Baby Bear in tow. My colors were all fair/ to fair/light. I stood while the lady applied each layer (Baby Bears' legs were tired of walking so she just HAD to sit!

We used the following products:
Primer

Foundation

Concealer

Powder

I really loved how light everything felt. It did not look or feel like I had anything on at all. Not too long after these products were on my face, it started to itch. I removed the makeup, and I am completely broken out from ear to ear along my jaw line. I was a little upset.

I am needing something for the constant redness in my face from the Humira and Methotrexate I am currently taking, but also doesn't break me out. I tried Elph eye liner and I wanted to claw my eyes out, so I use Cover Girl for eye liner, but cannot use anything else of theirs. I have tried Neutrogena, Cover Girl, Maybelline, Almay, Pysicians Formula, Mary Kay, oh, and let's not forget Merle Norman. I put that stuff on and a couple hours later I wanted to claw my face right off! I thought I was going to have to melt my face off to get it to stop burning!

I will be trying Bare Minerals this weekend, which I am afraid I will not like because I am not a big powder person. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Working Wednesday

Have you ever worked in an office environment and the second a certain person walks in, your morale immediately drops to the floor?

I mean, seriously, who walks into a new job and immediately starts making demands, shows up late, leaves early, and demands to be taken out to a $ 100 per plate steak lunch?  And they are not even management. Oh, and when being introduced around the office corrects you with a more fancy and higher up job title than what their title and roles actually are. This was day 1. Followed by the complaints that they actually have to work the second day on the job, and actually admits that they are all about always getting something for nothing. There is not a single "th" at the end of any words for this character. It is mouf, souf, teef. That kind of language, or lack there of, has always driven me batshit crazy!. It is never may I ask you a question, it is always can I  axe you a question. I personally like my questions to be asked. Who wants an axed question? Which part of the question do they want to axe? My answer will actually vary depending on that one.

This week has been hell, and it is only Tuesday. The expecting an entire department that has their own duties to do everything for them has become old real quick. Here's an idea, take notes, don't ask the same thing daily, and WORK. That is what you were hired for.

Things have already been stolen, so we now must keep everything locked up now, in fear of any more of our things walking off.

Who wants to be attacked, belittled, and bashed just because someone is upset, angry, or has no clue as to what they are looking at. So, since YOU don't understand the GL and functions, WE, who have been here for years are all wrong and stupid?

We often times wonder how people like this even make it through the doors of offices. I honestly think every hiring manager needs to read "Why stupid people get hired" click the link for a complimentary copy (they typically charge $99 for 22 pages) pass it on to a boss, or someone you think could use it. It may save your ass in the end. Wish I had been emailed before.

Here is what I have been cooking:

Mexican Cornbread

1 cup yellow corn meal                        3/4 tsp salt

2 eggs, well beaten                               1 can cream corn (14.75 oz)
1 cup whole milk                                  1/2 cup bacon drippings (or 1/3 cup of vegetable or olive oil)

1/2 tsp baking soda

Directions

Mix all ingredients above; set aside

Brown ½ lb. ground meat, drain well. I used ground turkey and ground sausage from Sprouts
Prepare the next 3 ingredients in separate piles, ready to be used.

1 large onion, finely diced

½ lb grated cheddar cheese

2-3 chopped jalapenos

Grease a large cast iron skillet.  Heat and then sprinkle a thin layer of corn meal and let slightly brown. (This will help to prevent the cornbread from sticking to the skillet.)

Pour half the batter in skillet, sprinkle in cheese, then meat, then onion, then peppers.

Pour remaining batter on top.  Bake 45 to 50 minutes at 350° F.  Sprinkle more cheese on top after removing from the oven.

Bacon & Egg Cups

1 Muffin tin
3-6 eggs ( I used egg whites)
Ham or turkey bacon (24 pieces of turkey bacon, 12 pieces of ham)- Real bacon leaves too much grease!
Chopped red, yellow, and green bell pepper (doesn't take much, I bought them pre chopped at Sprouts)
Onion
Shredded Cheese
Black Pepper

Preheat oven to 350
Spray muffin tin with non stick cooking spray.
Beat eggs until scrambled

Layer the bacon  pieces (2 for each space in the tin) criss cross (make an x) and fold the ends inward. Place shredded cheese in bottom, make sure it covers the bottom of the bacon (it makes its way to the top when cooking) then add your bell peppers, onion, black pepper, then pour scrambled egg mixture in (make sure it fills just the metal the tin all the way to top)
Place in the oven for 25-30 mins

I have used the mini muffin tins and the regular. I have found the regular size works best. You can really add anything to them you want.

Weekend Throwbacks

I have decided to bring back some older posts from my old, shut down, blog. These will be the substance of my weekend posts for a little bit. I know some of my new followers have been a little lost with my medical updates. So I am bringing this one back for them.

Scleritis is the inflammation of the sclera (white part of the eye) that can often times cause debilitating pain, light sensitivity, black outs from the intensity of the pain, sleepless nights, anxiety, vision loss (temporary and permanent). Everything you will read on scleritis will tell you that is always linked to an underlying cause. This is not the case. While there are underlying things that cause the scleritis, what they fail to tell you is that it isn't always pinpointed. Did you know that there is a very high percentage of people who never have an underlying cause diagnosed or found? The percentage of people with scleritis, who do have an underlying cause diagnosed is actually a lower percentage than those who never find the reason or cause. This is the glory of autoimmune diseases.

 Attractive, isn't it?

The pain is something that I can not describe. I will admit that it has been so bad at times I have contemplated shooting my eye out just to make it stop. The anxiety comes from knowing it is going to happen again, you just don't ever know when. The last flare up I had was so intense I actually blacked out.

My first flare up was in September of 2008. I remember it clear as day. We had just had a HUGE hurricane come in. The pain from that was the most excruciating thing I had ever felt in my life. I saw a specialist, and I was given antibiotics and sent on my way. The antibiotics helped with the swelling, but definitely NOT the pain. I remember the days, weeks, and months of pain I was in because it went by undiagnosed. The pain did eventually go away....months later.

These episodes started back again in February of 2012 and have been nonstop ever since. The prednisone dosages kept getting bigger and bigger; and I kept getting bigger and bigger. I could not for the life of me figure out why I could not lose weight and why I kept putting it on no matter what I did. A year plus on a prednisone roller coaster will certainly do it to you! I honestly had no idea how bad prednisone really is for you. I ditched my opthamologist that initially helped point me in the right direction because I just felt like a number with them, and they wanted me to only use who they told me to, and the fact that it went undiagnosed for so long. I sought out an amazing specialist who specializes in auto immune related illnesses, especially with scleritis, and she has honestly been the best thing that ever happened to me. Unfortunately, she resides in VA. Fortunately for me, she is in Texas 2 weeks out of the month!

When my eye isn't flared up, I am still having other inflammation issues. There are nights I have woken up feeling like someone has given me an indian sunburn all over my entire body. As my little rockstar and Alicia Keys like to sing "this girl is on fire" There are other times I feel as if every joint in my body is on fire, (I take a lot of cold showers and hot baths) and then there are times I feel as though I have been hit by a truck and every ounce of me hurts like I have the flu. Sometimes, on a good day, I feel like the tin man from the Wizard of Oz, or everything will all just go numb and tingle. Last night, just from cooking, my hands and wrists started to swell and contort in ways I have never seen. I felt like my wrist was about to break. I am literally in pain 24/7 throughout my entire body, and I guess when that isn't enough, it manifests through my eyes. Your eyes are a window and are signs when things go awry within your body.

We do everything in our power to not let this hold us back. We attend birthday parties, teacher conferences, girls nights, weddings, concerts, taking our child swimming and to the park, among everything else she wants to do. So if I don't seem like myself, this is why. It isn't you, I'm not mad, and no, there is nothing you have done (unless of course, you are the one that has expressed shear joy in mine and my daughter's recent autoimmune illnesses. And in that case, there is a special place for people like you).
There are just those days that it really has just  taken everything in me to actually get up, go, and attend these events. The fact of the matter is; everything is getting worse, not better. I am very grateful that Mr A and I have arranged our schedules in a way that he can pick up our little one from school and do some of the more strenuous activities with her like take her swimming, or to the park, and preparing dinner before I get home from work. Have those of you with little girls ever think there would be a day that you physically could not fix their hair? It happens in this house, and we just do the best we can.

I am still on prednisone and my current dose has NOT been containing it this time. I have been on indomethacin, mobic (meloxicam), plaquenil, flexeril, and none of it has helped the inflammation subside within my body. My sed rates and c reactive proteins are still off the charts, but nothing has been pinpointed or diagnosed as of yet. I have never had prednisone not work, either. We are now talking about a long term treatment plan. (Did I mention I LOVE my specialist?) I hate prednisone, and I hate what it does to me. I usually feel like I am in a bad recurring episode of the Twilight Zone that is never ending, or on one of the worst trips of my life. I feel completely cracked out, can't focus, and in a complete daze. I can't taste anything either. Chocolate tastes like ass! On what planet does chocolate taste like ass?!  Everything is completely out of whack, not to mention my poor stomach from all the drugs listed above. There isn't much I can actually eat these days that doesn't make me sick.

I also feel like one of these most days when on prednisone!

While there is no "cure" there are things besides prednisone that can be taken. This is where the double edged sword comes into play, for me. My body is wrecked anyways  add prednisone on top of it, then you have these meds/ other treatment options that also put me at risk. They will suppress my immune system and put me more at risk for things like tuberculosis and lymphoma. They give me the inability to be vaccinated, and these treatments open myself up to be more susceptible to illnesses. My body is fighting itself and this is how they know how to curb it at this point in time in medicine. It is a treatment, not a cure. I have been tired, and I have been desperate at times, but never desperate enough to put my health or life at risk. This is why I have researched the hell out of all my medical options (doctors and specialists included) and we (Mr A and I) have decided that Humira is going to be the treatment option that we explore at this time. I love the way Mr A said "death is a side effect of life" when going through the decision making. It really kind of put some things into perspective for me. Those that know me, know that I don't take these things lightly. We have looked into Cellcept, Methotrexate, and Rituxan as well, and Humira appears to be the better option. I will be closely screened and monitored on a regular basis with this drug. I have my appointment with my rheumatologist in a couple weeks, and I have to admit I am kind of excited and scared at the same time. It is definitely a lot of process of elimination and I still feel like one big science experiment, but this is my life and my reality.
