Hump Day!

So, we are officially in back to school mode, and officially in Kindergarten.

I walked my little bear to her class Monday morning, got her ready in her seat. We did hugs and kisses, and we said our goodbye's. I did not cry. Her first day of school had a couple hiccups; like her getting soaked in the rain, looking for a bus that she was not supposed to be on. They eventually got her in the right place. She said that she had a good day, then said she did not want to go to school the next day. When I asked her why, she said she would rather go in patterns.

The second day was a little harder for me to drop her off. I walked in with her, and she was desperately searching for someone she knew. I am so glad she found her friend from her previous school that morning, but seeing the uncertainty on her sweet face killed me!

This morning, there were tears over a sweater she had forgotten. She wanted to go back home, but we were already late since we don't really have much time to get ready in the mornings anymore. Looks like I am going to have to start getting up at 4 so I can be ready, get The Mister to work, then back home to get her ready. That is the only way this is going to work anymore for her get to school, and me still get to work on time. Insanity I tell you! Anyway, after the tears stopped, she insisted that I carry her inside. I carried her and held her until she was ready. Who would have thought that the third day would be the one that truly tugs on your heartstrings? I really thought the first day would have done it, and I was prepared. I was not prepared for today.

I do have to admit that I really like packing her lunches(leaving special surprises), ironing her clothes, and fixing her hair every morning. If you would have asked me this over 6 years ago, I would have said no way in hell.

Ah, the things parenthood will do to you.

Shit Just Got Real

I walked in, and dropped my Baby Bear off at the only school we have ever known for the very.last.time. I am so sad! I really did not think I would feel this way. I thought I would be excited. I'm just.not. Her teachers have really made it for us, and I am so sad to leave them behind. I wish the teachers we have had the pleasure of having, could stay with her through her entire school career.

Her best teacher was by far in preschool B. She was the best thing that happened to us. She, and the school, was the constant for my Baby Bear when things seemed so uncertain, and our world was turned upside down. She did so much, that she doesn't even realize she did. I wish I could take her with us.

Now, her teachers this year, have allowed her to blossom. They have accepted her for who she is and allowed her, and encouraged her to be herself, and they accept every single child just as they are.  Who cares that one of them turned a white dress yellow by washing it? It did not phase me one bit because she cared and she took care of my baby when she needed it most. They challenge them in different ways and truly love each and every one of their kids in class, and it shows. What more could you ask from a teacher, or a school?

Her new teacher is definitely going to have some big shoes to fill compared to the 4 over the last couple of years. We meet her tomorrow, and I am nervous!

Baby Bear is a little nervous too. She was excited last week, but as this week comes to a close, she is getting more and more nervous and scared. It's normal, right?

I can't believe my baby is going to Kindergarten!

Good News and Bad News

I had another appointment with my rheumy on Monday, and guess what? The methotrexate (chemo) is not working. Even with being upped in dosages and switching to injections. I have flared on both the pills and the injections of the chemo. The good thing is, my eye has not flared yet. I have really only been off the prednisone for a month, and it usually takes 2. Fingers crossed! My next step is Humira, which I already have in my possession. I just have to wait for my labs to come back and the doctors ok. The crappy part is, I still have to do the chemo in conjunction with the Humira. I have been switched back to the pill version, and after a weekend on them, I think I liked the injection far better! I had more energy and didn't feel as awful. Humira basically helps prevent the crippling effect that RA brings with it. Google images of RA, I dare ya!
My lil Bear has been having issues of her own. Major stomach problems, and a lot of pain when pooping, she has no fissures, so she has been referred to a specialist at Texas Children's. We can't get in until October. Which feels like a lifetime away.
Her dermatologist has also referred her to Texas Children's for her vitiligo. Hopefully Texas Children's won't be laser therapy happy like this dermatologist was, and can help us better contain it, because to my knowledge, vitiligo isn't supposed to hurt! Something else has to be going on with it. Oh, and this dermatologist referred her without our knowledge, which quickly set us off and caught me by surprise when they called to setup the appointment. Do they make money off the laser therapy they were shoving down our throats?! We aren't keen on the laser therapy because they can't tell us what issues she may run into having done it, further on down the road.

We're Kind of on a First Name Basis

School hasn't even started, and the superintendent of the district, the principal, and me are all on a first name basis. Is that a good or bad thing?......

It all started this week...

I have had my Little Bears registration forms, all documents as requested by the school website, and all copies made for the school weeks prior to the open of registration. This week was registration week. I left work and got down to the school and the people at the front door stated that they could not and would not let me register without a lease or note from a landlord. The website said lease OR utility bill. I had 2 utility bills! So why can't I register? I have my utility bills as proof as residence! The entire place was a madhouse, there were NO name tags identifying anyone that was working. The excuse for not allowing me to see the registrar was rules are rules, and then they said this came down from the big wigs, and the big wigs have control over the website, and the rules. Really?! I left the building, pretty frustrated.

So.....What did I do when I made it back to the office? I contacted the superintendent of the school district. (If you want an answer or results, you start at the top and work your way down- always) I wanted to make sure that they knew what was going on just in case the website was wrong; they could update it so other parents would not have to go through that. Turns out I was in the right, the teachers who turned me away were in the wrong and that should have never even happened! I was called by 2 other people from the district, offered apologies and explanations of how it never should have happened. Then the principal of my Bears' school called me, offered the same apologies and asked me to come back and she would place me at the front of the line. The super and principal also wanted to see me face to face.

I have to say that I was impressed by their prompt attention, and resolution. I am glad they informed their staff and no other parents were being turned away. While I did not get first in line, ( I had to wait about 30 minutes) most of the time spent up there was getting to know the nurse (which I love), the registrar, and more conversing with the principal.

I really cannot believe my baby is growing up and going to Kindergarten next year. In honor of her starting Kindergarten, we have her very own photo shoot scheduled tomorrow with RachelBanister Photography. I cannot wait!Baby Bear can't either because she finally gets to wear a dress she has been dying to wear!

Its Only Tuesday?

I have had some of the strangest things happen to me lately. Last week I was minding my own business, walking towards my car in my office parking lot and out of no where darted a bird. This little effer hit my purse! I figured I just happened to step into his flight path, my fault. I looked back at the bird to see where he landed. He was in the tree, staring at me. I continued walking and going about my business and here he came again, this time he got my hair. WTF?!!! Back in a tree he went, so I continued walking. He came at me again and got my shoulder. I turned around and he was sitting high and mighty on top of a car, staring and squawking at me! That is when I hightailed it out of there and ran for dear life to my car, and he followed! (Yes, arms flailing and everything) I know the mockingbird is our dear ol' state bird and all, and you aren't supposed to kill them, but shouldn't there be an exception?

Just in case you have never seen a Mockingbird.

This past weekend, I was out on our patio (it is a wood deck) and Little Miss Sunshine squatted to pee. I was floored. I could not believe that really just happened. When I told her no, she stopped and walked to me and I noticed my patio was DRY. She got absolutely none on the patio! This girl got it directly in between 2 teeny tiny slats. I mean, right on to my neighbors patio in front of their back door mind you. It takes some serious talent to be able to pull something like that off! Yet I was absolutely horrified.

Last night, I just so happened to be cooking spaghetti. I was switching the burners the sauce and the meat was on, and the back burner was hotter than I thought. The sauce started popping. I stepped back as The Mister was turning the temperature down, and out splashed steaming hot spaghetti sauce. I got hit. Can you guess where? Directly in my friggin' eye! Only I could pull something like that off.

I also managed to slice my stomach pretty good, with my very own fingernail. My thumb nail to be exact. I actually had a hard time stopping the bleeding. What are the odds?

To top this fabulous Tuesday off, I have learned NOT to use the word "seaman" and "I don't know where to put it" in the same sentence. EVER.

I hope you are all enjoying your week. As for me, I am making my very own bubble, made exclusively of bubble wrap and duct tape.

That Time I Thought I Was Going To Die

Here lately I have been taking The Mister to work at 5:30, each and every morning. This week, our little one is with the grandparents, so I decided I would just go into work when he did since he literally works right down the street from me.

I pulled into my dark parking space in the front of my office and made sure to back in so I could see the parking lot. I was the only person there. I noticed a small green car just sitting in the middle of the parking lot with the car running. I proceeded to put my makeup on in my car. This car that was parked in the middle of the parking lot ended up taking off, and parking right next to me. I double checked to make sure my doors were locked. Then thought the absolute worst. He proceeded to get out of his car. After looking at him and sizing him up, I knew I could out run him, but there was no way in hell I could take him. There was also no way I could make it to the door of my office, fumble with keys and unlock and lock the door before he could get a hold of me. He walked around to the back of his car and went into his trunk. I immediately thought I could possibly end up chopped into tiny pieces and placed in this trunk!

He sort of looked like this guy.

I watched him very closely as he walked around to his trunk, getting ready to take off. He started walking towards my car, and that is when I noticed his uniform and badge. I was a little more at ease, but still unsure. I cracked my window a smidge as he walked up to my window. Turns out he was in fact the property security guard and was making sure everything was okay!
